When Violence Unites

Just as peaceful protests were dispersing late last night shots rang out. Everyone hit the deck. Police and protestors united. “F**k. F**k. F**k!” from the mouths of the protestors at the violent intrusion into a night of peaceful protest. “Get down. Get Down. Get Down!” from the mouths of the police to protect the protestors from the danger hurtling through the air. From their core the police and protestors united, “F**k! Get down!” To the shoot-and-run cowards working from afar to escalate and instigate: The protestors do not want your contribution. Protestors are just as endangered as the police when you start your counterproductive violent measures. What you accomplished for us in that moment, at our most gut level instinct, was police and protestors united.

* This paragraph portrays the events Wednesday, March 11, 2015, when two police officers were shot in front of the Ferguson Police Department in Missouri. My expression is based on a video of the actual event taken by a protestor in the crowd the hours leading up to and including the moment after the shooting.
